Position

London managing partner James Scoville is a corporate partner whose practice focuses on securities matters and capital markets transactions. He advises both issuers and underwriters in US-registered and global offerings, with particular experience working on listings on the London Stock Exchange and US exchanges by Russian, Chinese and other emerging market companies, as well as representing insurance companies and underwriters in insurance company securities offerings.

Career

Qualified New York 1988; associate Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, New York and London 1987 to date; partner 1996 to date. Recent representations include: KazakhGold Group Ltd in a reverse takeover of Polyus Gold valued at approximately $10bn; Uralkali in its $8.1bn merger with Silvinit; OJSC Polyus Gold in its public offer for 50.1% of KazakhGold Group Ltd; Ripplewood Holdings in its €532m sale of AEG Power Solutions BV to Germany1 Acquisition Ltd; JSC RusHydro in its listing on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange; Catlin Group in its £200m rights issue, underwritten by JP Morgan and UBS; Citi and Credit Suisse on the €225m initial public offering and listing on Euronext Paris of shares by Paris Re Holdings Ltd; Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant on its $315m, OJSC Novolipetsk Steel on its $609m, and OGK-2 in its $1.05bn initial public offerings of shares and global depository shares and listings on the London Stock Exchange; Norilsk Nickel on the spin-off of its gold assets and the creation of Polyus Gold, a major international gold company, and the subsequent listing of Polyus Gold on the London Stock Exchange; RAO UES on its restructuring and spin-off of OGK and TGK subsidiaries; Rank Group Limited in a €900m high-yield bond facility in its bid for SIG Holding; China Life in its $3.46bn IPO (the largest IPO worldwide in 2003).
