Career

Adam has 15 years’ experience in UK immigration law and is recognised as one of the UK’s leading lawyers in the field.

Adam advises both individuals and organisations on the full breadth of UK immigration, nationality and asylum law, but his focus is on private client work and he is therefore central to the Doyle Clayton personal immigration offering.

His expertise ranges from advising on complex family immigration matters, including inter-country surrogacy and international adoption, to economic routes under the immigration rules for individuals wishing to work and/or establish a business in the UK. He has also assisted with countless adult and child applicants with discretionary-based nationality and immigration applications.

Clients Adam has acted for include Politically Exposed Persons, Queen’s Counsel, academics, students seeking to set up businesses in the UK, high net worth individuals, families and separated children, as well as those seeking asylum in the UK. He has a strong client following from LGBTQI individuals seeking UK immigration assistance.

Adam also has experience advising and training organisations at all levels in relation to their sponsorship and post-Brexit UK immigration matters, including FTSE 100 and SME companies, but with a particular focus on private educational bodies and tech start-ups.

Before joining Doyle Clayton in 2022, Adam was an associate at a Top 50 City international law firm where, during his six years at the firm, he provided UK immigration assistance to individuals and corporates of all sizes and worked with the firm’s other departments providing specialist immigration advice on cross-jurisdictional matters.

Prior to this, Adam trained, and worked as a senior lawyer for eight years, at a Band 1 boutique immigration law firm where his work included asylum and human rights claims, judicial review challenges and appeals to the First-tier and Upper Tribunals.

Adam is an experienced trainer and regularly delivers courses on behalf of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA) to immigration lawyers and advisors. He is considered an expert on the partner rules and financial requirements of the rules, as well as in respect of family and private life claims.

Doyle Clayton delivers ‘the high quality of immigration service demanded by their clientele’ in both the routine and more complex immigration mandates. Anita de Atouguia heads the practice, leading primarily in relation to the firm’s business offering, yet with additional significant experience in asylum and human rights immigration issues, she is well-placed to advise clients with their complex matters. Malini Skandachanmugarasan leads in the firm’s personal immigration work, with a track record in cases reliant on Home Office discretion and experience in global mobility for business clients. Alfreda Joubert joined the team from Magrath Sheldrick LLP in April 2023, and has a specific focus on global corporate clients and SMEs across a range of sectors. Also of note are senior associates Adam Cotterill, who has experience handling international adoption and surrogacy cases, Anna Blackenden, who has a sector focus in education, and Elisabeth Kynaston, who has dual immigration and employment law practice.
