Position

Peter is a dispute resolution lawyer. Following qualification he dealt with general commercial disputes, with an increasing volume of contentious construction work. The work now undertaken by Peter is almost exclusively for housebuilders and is a mix of contentious real estate, contentious construction, professional negligence and general dispute resolution. Peter acts for most of the large national housebuilders. Important recent cases have included defending a multi-million pound claim for a quasi-overage payment which went to trial in the Chancery Division, as well as advising on the correct interpretation of a conditional contract for the acquisition of a valuable development site in London. He is also currently advising on a number of defects claims arising from high rise developments. Peter has also continued to be involved in a number of high-value professional negligence claims, mainly against geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineers arising from advice on ground conditions. He is also a CEDR-accredited mediator.

Leisure

Peter and his family are season ticket holders at Coventry City FC. He enjoys most sports, live music and spending time with his children (whose ages span almost 30 years!).

Gateley Plc has a strong reputation in professional negligence, particularly on construction-related cases. Steve Goodrham is one of three partner who heads the practice and 'gets to the heart of a case very quickly', 'works out with the client what the right approach is' and 'then sticks to it'. Fellow practice head Peter Davies  is particularly active on construction related claims and advised a major house builder on a claim against geo-environmental engineers who failed to identify asbestos contamination on the client's purchased site. Also leading the team is Mark Wilson  , who focuses on claims against insolvency practitioners and offshore accountants and auditors. Also recommended is Michelle Davies who acts on claims against solicitors, tax advisers and accountants, and 'is very good at getting to grips with the detail of a case' and 'making sure that deadlines are met'.

Gateley Plc, which counts several prominent housebuilders among its clients, handles both contentious and non-contentious work. David Lloyd Jones¬†advised Jaguar Land Rover on construction contracts for a ¬£96m development, including a new head office, using a construction management contract ‚Äď in the residential space, he also advises Taylor Wimpey on contracts for Bouygues to redevelop part of the Mount Pleasant Mail Centre into housing. In the contentious arena, legal director Amira Khan¬†advises Bovis Homes on a dispute with Network Rail concerning delays to upgrades to Wellingborough railway station, which is adjacent to Bovis‚Äô Stanton Cross development. Peter Davies¬†and senior associate Peter Cursham¬†Will Cursham represent Volvo in a ¬£3m claim regarding a defective area of hardstanding. The firm also acts for Linden Homes. Senior associate Paul Scott¬†is a new hire from Shoosmiths LLP¬†.

Legal director Iain Davies  handles seven-figure landlord and tenant disputes, while Peter Davies  handles disputes concerning construction and remedial works, as well as flood risk. Senior associate Phil Scully represented Bovis Homes, securing an injunction for the client to allow construction of a road to carry out works.
