Career

Selma has been part of the team at Roe Lawyers since qualification in August 2022, having undertaken her training in the London office of national law firm, Reeds Solicitors.. Selma has amassed over 5 years’ experience specialising in general and business crime matters and has continued to build upon this experience during her time at Roe Lawyers. She focuses on proving high-quality legal advice and representation to individuals and corporates being investigated by the police, various government bodies or their regulators.

Selma has represented those accused of the full range of criminal offences from those arrested at the police station to those appearing in the Magistrates Court, Crown Court and appeal courts in cases ranging from minor road traffic offences to complex and serious high-profile matters such as rape, violence, drug offences and fraud.

Alongside her broad criminal practice, Selma has also developed a regulatory and professional discipline practice. She advises individuals facing investigations and disciplinary proceedings across the legal, financial, education and healthcare sectors, as well as local authority prosecutions.

Selma has notable work in the following fields:

  • General crime: violent offences, sexual offences, indecent images, public order offences, blackmail, robbery, harassment/stalking and drug offences;
  • White Collar crime – fraud
  • Financial proceedings – confiscation proceedings (including acting for interested third parties), asset restraint and contested forfeiture proceedings (including those with a cross-border element);
  • Appeal – advice on conviction and sentence.
  • Professional discipline – individuals under investigation by their regulatory body (e.g. NMC, SRA), companies on compliance with court orders served by regulators (e.g. FCA);
  • Local authority – breach of school attendance order.

Selma prides herself in being approachable and making clients feel at ease in often sensitive and stressful situations. Her proactive and tactical approach to case preparation has often seen her successfully conclude cases with no further action being taken against the client (at times without even the need for interview) or by obtaining an out of court disposal.
