Career

Ian Mondrow is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office practising in the area of energy regulation and policy as a member of the Energy Sector Group.

Ian has been working in energy for more than 30 years, much of that in the private practice of law, but including four years in a senior management and policy role as vice-president, Government & Regulatory Affairs, at a large integrated competitive energy services company where he engaged heavily in matters of market design and energy policy and legislative structure. Ian also served one year as special advisor to the chair of the Ontario Energy Board.

Ian represents electricity generators, transmitters and distributors, natural gas shippers, competitive energy services providers, and large electricity and natural gas consumers in various Canadian energy regulatory forums. Ian has also advised government agencies and non-government organizations on energy policy and energy sector design and legislation in various national and international jurisdictions.

Ian is a member of the Council for Clean & Reliable Energy, a federally-incorporated non-profit organization that was formed to provide a platform for open public dialogue and a solutions-oriented approach to challenges facing the energy sector.
