Martin English
Position
Martin qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and joined the regulatory team at Weightmans in September 2014.
Martin’s specialism is representing organisations, insurers, NHS Trusts and individuals designated Core Participant status in public inquiries or Interested Person status at inquests. He has used his excellent knowledge and understanding of the inquisitorial process for both public inquiries and inquests to represent clients in cases involving major incidents, fatal road traffic collisions and major health & safety incidents, as well as on numerous healthcare inquests involving complex medical care.
He conducts a significant proportion of his own advocacy, including Article 2 ECHR, multi-week, multi-party and jury inquests. He has managed and advocated cases of complexity as well as great sensitivity, some of which have attracted regional, national and international media attention.
Martin also represents individuals and organisations in the magistrates and crown court in respect of the full spectrum of road traffic, regulatory and criminal offences (from speeding to homicide-related offences). He has had notable success in securing acquittals on complex and technical points of law.
He has independent LEXCEL quality accreditation for providing advice and assistance at interviews under caution and providing advocacy assistance in the magistrates court.
