Career

Xia Zheng is the founder of AFD China Intellectual Property Law Office. She focuses her practice on intellectual property matters including prosecution, post-grant proceedings, dispute solutions, litigations and counseling. Xia represents clients in various industries, such as chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, petrochemicals, medical devices, household products, footwear, garment, cosmetics, organic synthesis, metallurgy, materials, food and beverage industry, semiconductors, vehicle ships, telecommunications, instruments, computers, textiles, mechanical engineering, agricultural chemicals and processes, traditional Chinese medicines, etc.
Due to her varied achievements, Xia has been recognized by multiple publications and agencies. She has obtained honors including the titles of National IP Expert granted by China Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) for her professional contributions since 2016, IAM Patent 1000’s world leading patent professionals since 2016, Asia IP Expert since 2016, Managing IP magazine’s IP Star since 2015, Outstanding Patent Attorney of the year 2014 by Beijing Patent Attorneys Association, Honor for Long Contributions to Chinese Patent and Intellectual Property Industries by the CNIPA in 2010, and Excellent Patent Professionals of 1997 by Chinese Academy of Sciences, and she has  been elected as Director of All-China Patent Attorneys Association, Standing Director of Beijing Patent Attorneys Association, and Director of Capital Intellectual Property Services Association. She is also a member of INTA, LES, AIPPI and AIPLA.
Xia obtained a master’s degree in intellectual property from Franklin Pierce Law Center (now University of New Hampshire School of Law), a Master of Science degree from University of Illinois, a Master of Engineering degree from Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing. She received IP and legal trainings at Shanghai Intellectual Property College, the China Patent Office, the China Trademark Office, the China Intellectual Property Training Center, the All-China Patent Attorneys Association, the China University of Political Science and Law and People’s University of China. Before founding AFD China, Xia had work experiences from a patent engineer, patent attorney, a director of a department to a director of an IP Office, and also once worked at Human Genome Sciences and engaged in research and patent management and prosecution at a research institute in China.
