Position

Paul provides the full range of competition, state aid, and public and utilities procurement advice to clients in a significant number of sectors, among them ICT-related industries and construction and engineering. Paul’s previous experience includes working at DG Competition at the European Commission in Brussels, reviewing antitrust and merger control decisions. He also had a period of secondment in the Law Society’s Brussels office. Experience: advising an international hospitality services provider in relation to the investigation by the competition regulator into distribution practices by online travel agents and making representations to the competition regulator; leading successful claim by PE-backed company against unlawful procurement award decision, leading to acceptance of infringement by contracting authority; advising major software provider on application of UK merger control law to series of acquisitions in domestic market; acting for a substantial software provider in its complaint of an abuse of dominance by a licensor of input intellectual property.

The 'excellent' team at Charles Russell Speechlys LLP is jointly headed by Paul Henty and Paul Stone . Henty has over 15 years’ experience advising on cartel law, abuse of dominance, merger control and state aid, and recently advised on the merger control and antitrust due diligence aspects of Wisdom Tree Investments’ acquisition of exchange-traded securities, funds and commodities provider ETFS. The ‘efficient and effective’ Stone acted for Gamma Communications in relation to the appeal to the CAT against Ofcom’s decision in the Business Connectivity Market Review 2016. Other recent significant EU and competition projects were handled for ITV, Ineos and the British Orthodontic Society.
