Career

Gavin acts for professional trustees and executors, trust corporations, charities and individuals and has extensive experience in dealing with complex trust disputes involving multi-million-pound claims and other jurisdictions.

He also deals with a wide range of contested claims concerning validity of wills and lifetime gifts; construction and rectification of wills and/or trust deeds; family provision claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 for all categories of applicant including spouses, cohabitees, dependants and children; professional negligence claims arising from defective trust instruments and wills, or poor legal, investment or tax advice; beneficial interests in properties (arising before and after death) including proprietary estoppel claims; and statutory wills and Court of Protection matters concerning financial abuse.

Gavin is recognised for consistently high-quality work and positive client feedback, and is highly regarded amongst his peers.  He formally led a national contentious trust and probate team and regularly receives referrals from other specialist lawyers and professionals based nationally, as well as regionally.

Gavin also acts as an independent administrator and/or court appointed personal representative and trustee in disputed estates and trusts, and is also regularly instructed as a mediator by other solicitors and barristers. He regularly delivers training and education to legal and non-legal professionals, bodies and intermediaries, and has lectured for Central Law Training and Simon Gore Consulting.

Gavin is a full member of ACTAPS and co-founded the Central ACTAPS Group.  He is a full member of SFE, an affiliate member of STEP, holds the STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes and sits on the Birmingham Branch STEP Committee.  He is also a member of the Birmingham Law Society Private Client Committee and a Governor of Hallfield School.
