Position

Oliver is an experienced commercial disputes partner with 25 years’ experience of high-value complex international commercial litigation and arbitration.  He is recognised as a recommended lawyer by the Legal 500 in the fields of Commercial Litigation, International Arbitration and Fraud: Civil.  He is described in the Legal 500 as “highly regarded”, having “a very loyal client basis” and “outstandingly good at delivering a watertight service to clients”.

His work is almost exclusively international and cross-border in nature.  He has been involved in cases involving many different jurisdictions throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and North America.  He has handled disputes across a broad range of sectors, including recently matters arising out of or related to accounting, banking and finance, commodities, digital currencies (including Bitcoin), energy, insurance, intellectual property, real estate and shipping.

He has particular expertise in fraud disputes having handled several very large fraud disputes and have published several articles on this topic.

He has considerable experience of international arbitration, including under the auspices of the ICC, LCIA and LMAA as well as ad-hoc arbitration proceedings. 

Career

Oliver joined ONTIER LLP, previously known as SCA ONTIER LLP and SC Andrew LLP, in October 2011. Prior to that he worked for boutique disputes firms Davis & Co and Curtis Davis Garrard, now known as Haynes and Boone CDG, as well as the leading shipping law firm then known as Holmes Hardingham Walser Johnston Winter.

Oliver is an active member of the British-Russian Law Association.

Education

Oliver was called to the Bar in 1994 and qualified as a solicitor in 1998.  He is a graduate of the University of Sheffield (LL.B. Hons) and the Inns of Court School of Law (Bar Vocational Course).
