Position

In addition to core commercial litigation, Ali’s practice focuses on fraud, insolvency and banking and finance, together with professional liability arising from similar cases. He is currently instructed on a number of complex frauds and breaches of duty by directors, agents and against the public purse, and is regularly involved in applications for Freezing Orders and Norwich Pharmacal relief. His insolvency practice comprises claims against directors, recently acting for office-holders in multi-million pound fraudulent trading and misfeasance claims, and takes in all aspects of corporate and individual insolvency, necessarily including urgent applications for injunctive relief and applications relating to the appointment of Administrators. Ali regularly represents multinational banks and finance houses in cases involving fraud, undue influence and misrepresentation, often with an insolvency element. Ali’s professional liability practice mainly involves claims for and against solicitors, IFAs and surveyors. His broad knowledge base attracts instructions in unfair prejudice petitions and shareholder disputes. Ali has recently been a led junior on several claims involving an undervalued share sale, breaches of warranty, and a complex breach of contract arising from an abortive tendering process.
A confident, diligent and approachable advocate, Ali offers practical and realistic advice to suit the client’s commercial objectives. He is proactive in his relationships with solicitors and welcomes communication from an early stage of proceedings. He is aware of the importance of ADR, and his measured approach has helped facilitate numerous favourable settlements at recent mediations.
Ali writes for Corporate Rescue and Insolvency and International Corporate Rescue, and is a contributing author for LexisNexis.
