Lourdes Catrain is Co-Director of the International Trade & Investment practice. Lourdes has achieved milestone successes in all areas of EU trade law, including the completion on behalf of a sovereign government of a free trade agreement with the EU, the annulment of a customs classification regulation on Pfizer’s Thermacare products before the Court of Justice of the EU, the judicial delisting of an entity from the EU Sanctions against Iran, as well as a series of investigations and related voluntary disclosures in various EU jurisdictions on breaches of trade control laws. She has recently assisted a Latin America country in its trade negotiations with China.  Lourdes regularly advises energy, telecommunications, satellite, engineering, chemical, life science, and other companies in complying with economic sanctions and trade controls, including licensing, and enforcement matters. She has secured several foreign investment approvals and most notably, she led the multiple foreign investment filings related to EUR 12.3bn acquisition by GE of Alstom’s energy activities. In the area of trade defence investigations, Lourdes has been involved in the five year long EU solar panel trade dispute with China and the on-going steel safeguard case. As a member of the firm’s Brexit task force, she guides clients on the trade implications of the UK’s departure from the EU.
