Within: Derivatives (including commodities)

'At the very top of the market', remarks a client of Linklaters LLP who adds that 'on our most complicated trades we find their cross-border ability very useful and they are excellent at keeping on top of new regulations'. The firm is regarded as one of the leaders in derivatives clearing and related regulatory advice, margin requirements for non-centrally cleared OTC derivatives, complex CLOs, synthetic securitisations, ESMA-compliant balance sheet securitised derivatives, bespoke repackagings, longevity derivatives, fund-linked derivatives, complex equity derivatives and commodity title transfer financings. ' Industry leader' Deepak Sitlani, who is a key adviser to ISDA, leads the derivatives and structured products practice, in which standout partners include leading securitised and OTC derivatives expert Vinay Samani; Simon Firth who 'literally wrote the book on derivatives'; Paul Lewis , who has a particular focus on margin implementation for non-cleared derivatives; global head of capital markets Michael Voisin; and up-and-coming partner Mark Drury , whose broad practice covers exchange-traded and OTC derivatives, repackaged notes, hedge and mutual fund-linked products, cash and synthetic CLOs/CDOs and fund derivatives.

Structured products and securitisation

Within: Structured products and securitisation

Linklaters LLP has 'quality right through the ranks, from the partners through their senior and junior associates, which arguably differentiates this practice from its peers', according to one client. The firm has one of the largest dedicated structured finance and securitisation practices globally, and it operates an integrated practice across the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. In 2018, it was involved in some of the largest securitisations in Europe, including some of the highest-profile RMBS transactions. It also acted in newly developing segments of the UK mortgage market, notably RMBS deals by non-bank UK mortgage originators, and is a prominent player in the non-performing loan (NPL) securitisationarea. Other key areas include auto-loans, led by up-and-coming partner Reza Taylor, and whole business securitisation. Andrew Vickery leads the structured finance practice, which includes leading lights such as Julian Davies, James Harbach and Adam Fogarty, as well as up-and-coming partner Alexander Shopov. The firm handles securitised derivatives, as well as SPV-based complex structured finance transactions, and among many partners specialising in derivatives and structured products are Matthew Monahan, Toby Gray, Michael Voisin, Paul Lewis and Simon Firth.
