Serious Injury

Position

I am a Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office and Middlesbrough consulting office. I’m the Regional Managing Partner for Personal Injury and also lead the Serious Injury team.

I specialise in helping people who have sustained serious and life changing injuries, particularly assisting individuals who have suffered brain and spinal cord injuries and multiple orthopaedic injuries in claiming compensation following injury.

I have a particular interest in complex liability issues arising out of accidents in the workplace, and road traffic collisions particularly involving pedestrians, and have dealt with a number of claims which other solicitors have considered too difficult to pursue.

I have obtained many substantial interim payments to fund rehabilitation packages, the purchase of accommodation and care to improve my clients’ quality of life and to maximise their recovery.

Irwin Mitchell developed a stellar reputation supporting claimants in complex and high-value serious personal injury and clinical negligence claims. While regional head Francesca Mayes continues to lead the personal and serious injury teams in Newcastle, Sarah Coles handles the clinical negligence team together with new partner Samuel Hill who was promoted in May 2022 and has particular expertise in high value Cerebral Palsy claims alongside group action work. The medical negligence team is well-placed to support its clients’ birth injury claims and Article 2 inquest cases. Work place injuries are dealt with by regional lead Ian Toft, supported by senior associate Emma Bell. Senior associate Laura Mcilduff specialises in adult and paediatric cases involving life changing injuries including brain, spinal cord and amputation injuries.
