Position

Stuart is a Corporate partner with a focus on entrepreneurs, private companies and mid-cap companies, advising on all aspects of investment, share capital reorganisations, shareholder returns, M&A activity and group reorganisations (domestic and international).

Stuart has extensive experience of working as part of multi-disciplinary teams and provides advice to a variety of clients who are seeking business-focused solutions. He acts for PwC LLP on its own business acquisitions and disposals and this gives him a real insight into what a client really wants from its advisers on a practical and commercial as well as legal perspective.

Career

Trained Titmuss Sainer Dechert (now Dechert) 1997-99; qualified 1999; solicitor in the corporate department Arnheim Tite & Lewis (now PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal) 1999-2004; solicitor Simmons & Simmons 2004-07; partner PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal 2007 to date. Publications of note: contributor to ‘A Practical Guide to the Companies Act 2006 – a guide for busy directors and company secretaries’.

Education

Methwold High School (1990 10 GCSE’s – 3 A’s, 4 B’s, 3C’s); Downham Market Grammar School Sixth Form (1992 3 A Levels – 2A’s, 1 B, awarded Norfolk County Scholar Prize); Manchester University (1995 LLB (Hons) Law – 1st (including prizes for top mark in two subjects in final year)).

Leisure

Football (Brentford season ticket holder and adviser to the Brentford Supporters Trust, Bees United), keen runner (distances 10k, half marathon and marathon) and travel (favourite trips including a tour of Japan, lemur spotting in Madagascar, tiger spotting in India and travel around the Galapagos).

Stuart Hatcher leads the practice at PwC LLP, which acts for domestic and international clients across a range of sectors, including financial services, healthcare and energy, with a specific focus on oil and gas. Keith Bottomley, who was promoted to partner in 2017, acted for Enel on the acquisition of a development project in the UK and for the management team of Pure Planet in relation to an £8m seed investment by BP. The team is also noted for handling private M&A transactions; in a recent highlight, Oliver Williams acted for the majority shareholder in Techimp on the sale of the company to Finit Partners. Thomas Colmer, Cynthia Chan, due diligence expert Richard Wood and managing associate Tim Sydor are also noted. Former practice head Mark Crofksey left the team in December 2017; Tom Lewis joined from KPMG; and Peter Workman relocated to lead the firm’s Midlands corporate team.
