Career

Maaike Lustenhouwer is a lawyer at AKD. As part of the Transport practice group, she specialises in transportation law, consumer law and European law, with a particular focus on air law.

Maaike has assisted numerous airlines in disputes over a range of questions. She advises and litigates in cases relating to the carriage of passengers and cargo, the package travel directive, unfair consumer practices, damage to aircraft, agency agreements, ground handling, aircrew licencing, maintenance issues and general aviation.

In addition to her work as a lawyer, Maaike shares her knowledge as a lecturer at the International Institute of Air and Space Law of the University of Leiden and the University of Utrecht. She also teaches air law to student pilots, combining her passion for aviation and the law. Maaike’s interest in aviation goes beyond her legal expertise, as she holds a pilot licence (PPL(A)) herself. This enables her to understand the sector from a unique perspective and provides her clients with pragmatic and result-driven solutions.
