Career

Martina Farrugia joined Fenech & Fenech as an Associate in 2018 within the firm’s marine litigation department.

Having secured her Bachelor of Laws degree, Martina qualified as a lawyer with a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2015 after having successfully defended her thesis on equality and disability rights. Martina was called to the bar in 2016 whereupon she worked extensively in local civil litigation and immigration law within her family’s legal practice.

In 2017, Martina went on to obtain a Master’s degree in international maritime law conferred by the IMO International Maritime Law Institute. Martina’s dissertation was entitled ‘The Application of the Principles of Liability and Compensation Schemes to the Aquaculture Industry: the Malta Perspective.’ In 2018 Martina chose to further her studies and successfully completed a Professional Award in Taxation with the Malta Institute of Taxation.

As a member of the Fenech & Fenech marine litigation team, she is knowledgeable in most aspects of maritime law ranging from wet to dry shipping disputes. Her other areas of practice include debt recovery, ship arrests, enforcement procedures and dispute resolution in matters concerning seafarer’s employment.

Martina is also active in the firm’s yachting department, routinely assisting in the implementation of yacht leasing structures and the importation of yachts.
