Allen & Overy, A. Pedzich sp. k.’s ‘outstanding’ team ‘performs above the market standard’ and acts for a number of top banks and financial institutions. Tomasz Kawczyński led a team assisting a group of banks, including lead arrangers Bank Zachodni WBK and mBank, with the PLN1.1bn financing of Tele-Fonika Kable. Arkadiusz Pędzich advised a consortium comprising Bank Handlowy, Bank Zachodni WBK, PKO BP and Česká spořitelna on the PLN700m financing of CEZ Finance Polska. Dan Cocker and Piotr Lesiński are other names to note.

Clifford Chance’s group is praised for its combination of ‘excellent experience’ and ‘cross-disciplinary knowledge’. Practice head Grzegorz Namiotkiewicz is leading a team advising a mezzanine finance provider on the €450m refinancing of the B8 oil field project. In another highlight, Andrzej Stosio advised Bank BGŻ BNP Paribas and Bank Millennium on a loan for the construction of an oncology hospital. Other clients include American Heart of Poland.

Mateusz Toczyski heads Dentons’ ‘responsive and creative’ team. Highlights on the borrower side included assisting developer HB Reavis with the €126m financing provided to its subsidiaries for the construction of properties in Warsaw, while lender work included advising a consortium of Polish banks on the PLN139m financing provided to Tönsmeier’s German and Polish subsidiaries. Elsewhere, the team assisted Banca Intesa Sanpaolo with regulatory matters. Michał Mężykowski, Marcin Bartczak and Tomasz Braun are recommended.

Linklaters’ team is ‘excellent on local and cross-border transactions’. The ‘professional and proactive’ Jarosław Miller acted alongside Joanna Gawlicka for a syndicate of banks on a PLN5.5bn loan provided to Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), while Artur Kulawski and Marta Domino assisted Niam with the acquisition financing of a €160m office portfolio.

At CMS, practice head Małgorzata Chruściak is assisting RBS and its shareholders with terminating its business operations in Poland. In another highlight, counsel Tomasz Zwoliński led a team advising ING Bank Śląski on the financing of fuel reserves. Other clients include Bank Zachodni WBK, mBank and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego are also clients. Of counsel Beata Barwińska is also recommended.

At Greenberg Traurig Grzesiak sp. k., practice head Andrzej Wysokiński acted alongside managing partner Jarosław Grzesiak and Aleksander Janiszewski for Cyfrowy Polsat on obtaining PLN12.5bn-worth of credit facilities from a consortium of Polish and foreign financial institutions. Real estate finance specialist Agnieszka Stankiewicz is another name to note.

Hogan Lovells (Warszawa) LLP’s practice is headed by Piotr Zawiślak, who advised Bank Zachodni WBK and Erste Group Bank on a €342m loan provided to Echo Investment to refinance two retail developments. Zawiślak also assisted UniCredit Bank with the PLN1bn securitisation of Polish receivables. In another highlight, Rafał Grochowski (who is ‘an eminent figure in the infrastructure financing sector’) advised DNB Bank Polska on the financing of the purchase and sale of shares in Sport Lesko.

At Norton Rose Fulbright, practice head Grzegorz Dyczkowski was part of a team advising a group of lenders on Cyfrowy Polsat and Polkomtel’s PLN12.5bn debt refinancing. Other highlights included assisting PKO Bank Polski with its PLN1.6bn disposal of non-performing loans for and advising a group of lenders on Ciech’s PLN1.5bn debt refinancing. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China is a new client.

Tomasz Ostrowski and associate Sylwia Opiatowska at White & Case M. Studniarek i Wspólnicy – Kancelaria Prawna sp.k. assisted Bank Zachodni WBK, as part of a consortium of lenders, with a revolving credit facility provided to Eurocash. The duo, along with Nicholas Coddington, also advised Bank Polska Kasa Opieki on over PLN1.2bn for the debt refinancing of Żabka. Clients also include Bank Pekao, Kulczyk Investments and Kompania Węglowa.

At Baker & McKenzie Krzyzowski i Wspólnicy Spólka Komandytowa, Ireneusz Stolarski and senior associate Tomasz Kaczmarek (who attract praise for their ‘deep industry knowledge’) advised Polenergia as sponsor and Polenergia Farma Wiatrowa Mycielin as borrower on the financing of a 48MW wind farm project. Other highlights included assisting Bank BGŻ BNP Paribas with the financing of a housing project in Warsaw.

Domanski Zakrzewski Palinka’s clients include Paragon Medical, JPMorgan, Idea Bank and Getin Noble Bank. Practice head Magdalena Skowrońska is assisting a lender consortium with the €1.3bn acquisition financing of Constantia Flexibles and advised a group of borrowers on obtaining financing for the Sheraton Warsaw Hotel. Andrzej Fołtyn is also noted.

At Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, associate Marcin Iwaniszyn led a team advising Bridgepoint on the financing of the acquisition of Smyk Group from Empik Media & Fashion. Other clients include Polimex-Mostostal, Ciech and CornerStone Partners. Artur Zawadowski leads the practice.

Gide Loyrette Nouel advised Bank Zachodni WBK and ING Bank Śląski the Hortex Group’s debt restructuring. Asseco South East Europe, Bank Millennium and Enterprise Investors are also clients. The ‘knowledgeable’ Paweł Grześkowiak is recommended.

Key figures at K&L Gates LLP include practice head Lech Giliciński, who is ‘very business-driven and valuable in sourcing transactions’, as well as Adrian Jonca and Gregor Ordon, who joined the group from Wolf Theiss. Ordon advised Deutsche Leasing Polska on the Polish aspects of a €170m lending agreement.

At Kochanski Zieba & Partners, practice head Szymon Gałkowski led a team assisting Griffin Institutional Access Real Estate Fund with the €36m financing of the acquisition and modernisation of Raiffeisen Business Center.

Radzikowski, Szubielska i Wspólnicy sp.k. has a track record acting for banks on energy and infrastructure financings. Zbigniew Skórczyński is the key contact.

Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak’s ‘experienced and very efficient’ team includes Marcin Olechowski, who recently assisted Carlo Tassara with the regulatory aspects of the PLN1.6bn sale of its holding in Alior Bank to PZU.

Peter Święcicki at Squire Patton Boggs Swiecicki Krzesniak sp. k. advised Raiffeisen Bank on a €25m, multi-jurisdictional factoring transaction for Lasselsberger and LB Minerals. Avallon, Kreditech and Wonga are also clients.

At Wardynski & Partners, Łukasz Szegda advised a syndicate of lenders on the PLN185m financing of Work Service. Other highlights included assisting ING Bank Śląski with the PLN75m financing of the acquisition of ZSChiM Piotrowice II.

Sławomir Szepietowski leads Bird & Bird Szepietowski i wspólnicy sp. k.’s practice, which includes Maciej Georg, who leads on asset-based and acquisition financings. Highlights included advising Kreos Capital on a €38m facility to a UK-based payday lender.

At DLA Piper Wiater sp.k., practice head Krzysztof Wiater led a team assisting Raiffeisen-Leasing on the alteration of a securitisation of lease receivables, which involved the issuance of a new sub-class of senior notes and PLN383.5m of mezzanine notes. Senior associates Paweł Turek and Katarzyna Wacławek are noted.

Leszek Rydzewski leads the practice at FKA Furtek Komosa Aleksandrowicz and advised Kliniki Neuroradiochirurgii on the PLN105m financing of the construction of a hospital. Bank Millennium, Alior Bank and Pekao Leasing are also clients.

Magnusson – Kancelaria Prawnicza’s clients include KBC Bank, Bank Zachodni WBK and Balmain Asset Management. Marek Król acted for Bank Pekao on a €35m long-term loan for the construction of two shopping centres. Katarzyna Sawa-Rybaczek and Wojciech Wądołowski are recommended.

Sławomir Morawski heads the team at Noerr, which acts for BNY Mellon, MyBucks, Saf-Holland and Rocket Internet, among other clients. Jacek Bąk left the firm.

At WKB Wiercinski, Kwiecinski, Baehr, Piotr Grabarczyk and Jakub Jędrzejak are singled out for their ‘in-depth knowledge and experience in bank financing’. The team acted as local counsel for a consortium of eight lenders on the refinancing of PGNiG’s Norwegian subsidiary. Other clients include Bank BGŻ BNP Paribas, NewCold and Banco de Chile.

The team at Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland advised Avis Poland on a PLN100m credit facility and establishing the securities for the benefit of Bank Pekao. Krzysztof Haładyj and Małgorzata Bakuła joined Baker & McKenzie Krzyżowski i Wspólnicy Spółka Komandytowa in December 2016.
