The former ECIJA Colombia-team has departed the Spanish-headquartered firm to relaunch as an independent firm, Veria Asesores, a 32-strong boutique firm that retains its orientation towards regulatory work, with a focus on competition, TMT and litigation. Given the firm's novelty - it launched in September 2025 - its current client roster remains unclear; however, the team - much of which has been together since it's pre-ECIJA incarnation, MBCR - has a proven track record in competition matters. Department co-head Pablo Márquez stands out for his impressive regulatory background; he has formerly served as Director of the Colombian Communications Regulatory Commission, as well as Deputy Superintendent of the SIC. Márquez recently advised Colombia Telecomunicaciones (Telefónica) on follow-on matters concerning its conditional merger with UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones (TIGO) — he also advised on the initial merger in 2023. Julio Castañeda, who brings to bear niche expertise on issues related to the radioelectric spectrum, co-heads the practice. The group also includes counsel Pablo Onofre, who co-ordinates the competition and merger control area.
