As the budget cuts continue, veterans find themselves receiving fewer benefits, less educational opportunities, reduced chances for promotion and lower pay. The cost is even higher for wounded veterans, who have seen budgets for treatment facilities dwindle.
Fortunately voices are emerging to stand up for the rights of veterans and even more promising is the platforms these voices have.
Among these voices is that of Patrick Murphy, and Iraq Vet and former congressman. Murphy is now hosting "Taking the Hill," addressing issues facing veterans.
"We'll deal with real issues," Murphy said. "There are substantial challenges facing the veteran community - homelessness, unemployment, mental health issues. The difference with 'Taking the Hill' is we intend for the show's dialog to be more complete. We're not just going to flag problems. We're going to offer solutions too."
