Private Initiatives in Alternative Dispute Resolution

Private initiatives in ADR are taking place in the U.S. and abroad. The private ADR movement in England has been led by the Centre for Dispute Resolution, or CEDR, which was founded in 1990, and in the financial services industry by the City Dispute Panel in London. The CEDR's ADR promotion and mediation training activities have extended into Europe, and CEDR participated - along with U.S.-based Endispute - in the training of the Hong Kong Airport's mediators. In 1996, the New York-based CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution established a European Advisory Committee and promulgated mediation and mini-trial procedures and ADR clauses for use in the European market.
