The Data Protection Commission (“DPC”) recently published its 2019 Annual Report (the “Report”), marking the end of the first full calendar year of the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”).

Commissioner for Data Protection, Ms Helen Dixon, describes 2019 in her foreword as a year of “quantity and quality”. Indeed, the Report highlights a positive increase in the work undertaken by the DPC across a variety of projects in 2019. Notably but unsurprisingly, the Report also demonstrates an increase in awareness throughout the country of the rights and obligations provided for under GPDR. The Report also covers both the national and the international, with references to the Planet49 decision of the CJEU on the use of cookies and the opinion of the Advocate General on the SCC data transfer case.
