On 26 July 2010, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) published a draft Structural Reform Plan (SRP).  The Coalition Government describes SRPs as tools for making government departments accountable for the implementation of reforms in the Coalition Agreement.

In addition to other business and economic aims, the SRP states a general policy of promoting a "world-class" competition law framework and contains three specific competition law initiatives:

  • By January 2011, BIS aims to review competition law and the roles of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and the Competition Commission (CC).
  • By March 2011, it also aims to review factors that can be considered when takeovers are proposed.
