Introduction
A deportation decision in Turkey requires immediate attention, but urgency should not obscure the first question: what, exactly, has been decided? Removal from the country, detention in a removal centre and a restriction on future entry are distinct measures. Each requires its own legal assessment. Challenging one does not necessarily resolve the others.
For a foreign national and their family, the immediate task is to obtain the decisions, establish when they were notified and preserve the opportunity for judicial review. A lawyer should then examine the statutory grounds, the evidence relied on and the consequences of return. This article explains the deportation process under Turkish law, including the seven-day challenge period, administrative detention and the safeguards developed by the Constitutional Court.
