Bahrain: Increase in the minimum quota for the recruitment of local disabled employees for public and private companies

Public and private companies with 50 or more employees will soon be required to ensure that 4% of their workforce consists of Bahraini nationals with disabilities, up from 2% previously. Following the Shura Council's recent approval of the proposed law, the Ministry of Labour is currently transforming the proposal into an official decree law and is expected to issue further guidance on the law (including possible penalties for non-compliance) in the near future.

In light of this imminent change in policy, employers will soon need to revise their hiring practices to ensure they meet the new targets.
