Comprehensive immigration reforms; adoption of certain revised provisions under the Directive on
the Single Residence Permit

Effective June 4, 2026, Croatia has implemented several immigration reforms.

These include, among others, the following measures:

  • The introduction of territorial restrictions on the validity of work permits
  • The extension of processing times
  • The relaxation of rules regarding changes of employer

and

  • the introduction of more generous unemployment waiting periods for holders of residence and work permits.
Some of these reforms are part of Croatia’s efforts to implement the revised Directive on the Single Permit domestically,
including the unemployment waiting periods and the relaxed rules regarding changes of employer.
