The government is consulting the public about proposals to implement the Insurance Distribution Directive in Dutch financial supervision legislation. The consultation period will end on 31 January 2017. As part of the proposed implementation, new obligations for insurers and reinsurers and for insurance and reinsurance intermediaries, such as additional pre-contractual obligations, will come into effect on 23 February 2018.

The consultation for a draft bill implementing the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) in the Netherlands was launched on 23 December 2016. The IDD replaces the Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD). The IDD's objectives are:

  • to create a level playing field for all parties involved in selling insurance products
