1996 - A Record Year For The Amsterdam Exchanges NV

NetherlandsAntitrust/Competition Law
The Amsterdam Exchanges NV can look back on an exceptionally good year which benefited investors and other market parties alike. The volume of new issues and the number of introductions to listing were also highly satisfactory. The rise in share prices was mainly due to the downward trend in interest rates, a solid dollar, the excellent bourse climate and good corporate results. The strong increase in turnover was occasioned among other things by international trends such as economies of scale, the ongoing globalization of securities trading and an explosion in share prices. The number of transactions mushroomed year-on-year, which could point to the return of the private investor. As in 1995, Amsterdam s AEX index closed the year at an all-time high: 648.24. This represented a 33 percent rise on the previous year.
