Foreign nationals working in certain areas of information technology are now entitled to an EU Blue Card if they have at least three years of relevant professional experience (acquired in the last seven years), regardless of whether they have relevant educational qualifications.

Previously, a relevant university degree was required to obtain a Blue Card.

The IT professions affected include: IT managers, systems analysts and administrators, software and database developers and operators, and network and multimedia developers.
