Introduction of a "Remote Work Visa"

In August 2021, the Costa Rican authorities announced the introduction of a short-term visa for remote workers or service providers, which will now come into force. The visa allows foreign workers who are permanently employed outside Costa Rica to live and work in Costa Rica. Applicants must however prove that they earn at least USD 3'000 per month by providing a bank statement.

Many countries have introduced a "Remote Work Visa" to promote the economic recovery due to the economic damage suffered from the Corona virus epidemic, but do not allow remote workers to be accompanied by their family members. Costa Rica allows remote workers to bring along their family members during their stay, however the worker must earn at least USD 4'000 per month.
