In the March edition of Defence Dispatch, we lead with AI in warfare, looking at how the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the growing use of low-cost autonomous systems, and the public clash between Anthropic and the U.S. government together bring into focus a foundational defence question: when frontier AI enters military systems, who controls its use? We place that debate alongside India’s own emerging model of sovereign compute and military AI development. We also look at Defence Forces Vision 2047, the Indian military’s roadmap for jointness, multi-domain integration, and future warfighting capabilities, and the 18th India-US Defence Policy Group meeting, which offered a clearer articulation of the strategic logic now driving defence cooperation between India and the United States, alongside a roundup of developments across the sector.
