The European Commission has published an AI Code of Practice providing guidance on EU copyright law compliance in relation to the AI Regulation. The Code of Practice is important for e.g. AI providers and enterprises exercising or having rights in data used to train AI models.

On 10 July 2025, the European Commission published a Code of Practice for general-purpose artificial intelligence (AI) – so-called GPAI – i.e. large language models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Llama.

Developed by independent experts with input from many stakeholders, the Code of Practice was adopted by the European Commission and the AI Committee on 1 August 2025. It is designed to enable the industry comply with the GPAI rules of the AI Regulation, which came into force on 2 August 2025.
