Position

Pupil

Whilst employed as a Paralegal, Millie managed her own case load both prosecuting and defending.

Millie managed a variety of defence work including serious sexual offences, armed robbery, S18, and fraud offences. She therefore obtained a strong understanding of the procedure of criminal trials and the rules of evidence. She is also very comfortable with the use of the Digital Case System and consistently demonstrated professionalism and effective communication when dealing with clients and other legal professionals.

Millie also had conduct of multiple private prosecutions, instructed on behalf of West Yorkshire Trading Standards. This allowed Millie to develop a foundation of understanding in relation to disclosure as well as the importance of preparation and precision when prosecuting fraud offences.

Millie’s experience of the Criminal Justice System is also complemented by the various mini pupillage and marshalling placements she has undertaken over the years. These allowed her to gain understanding of both the Magistrates and Crown Court, as well as witnessing the tactical decisions made by counsel both behind the scenes and in Court.

Millie successfully competed in advocacy competitions alongside her studies. Notably she won the University of Law Cross-Examination Competition, as well as the Newcastle University Advocacy Competition. Both competitions were judged by senior members of the Bar and took place in front of an audience. This allowed Millie to develop her own persuasive advocacy style preparing her for pupillage and beyond.

Testimonial from previous employer: K. Frith Solicitor, “Millie is unfazed by the unknown and willing to tackle anything. She is confident but never arrogant, incredibly bright but humble”.
