James acts for tenants, occupiers, and applicants as well as local housing authorities and registered providers. He is regularly instructed by both legal aid and private solicitors across the North and Midlands and works closely with housing officers, legal teams, and grassroots advice agencies.

Known for his clear, measured advocacy and practical approach, James is skilled at handling sensitive and high-pressure cases where housing law intersects with public law duties and human rights principles. He appears frequently before the County Court, High Court, and appellate courts, and has extensive experience drafting pleadings, skeleton arguments, and written advice.

Personal Injury

James has over 15 years’ experience in all aspects of personal injury litigation, acting for both Claimants and Defendants in fast-track and multi-track cases. He is regularly instructed in cases involving road traffic accidents, employers’ liability, public and occupiers’ liability, industrial disease, and product liability.

He has particular experience representing major corporate clients, having been instructed on approved Counsel panels for J Sainsbury Plc, Argos Ltd, AMEC Construction Plc and West Midland Travel. His practice also includes defending allegations of fraud and exaggerated injury claims.

James has a strong paperwork practice, frequently drafting pleadings and advising on liability, causation, evidence, and quantum. He is known for his pragmatic advice, robust advocacy, and ability to deliver commercially sound outcomes in complex and high-value litigation.

Regulatory & Public Law

James is developing a growing practice in inquests and coronial law, building on extensive experience in public law and complex civil proceedings. He has acted for families, public bodies, and interested persons in inquests involving deaths in care, workplace accidents, and road traffic fatalities.

He has appeared in both Article 2 inquests and those raising issues of systemic failure and public authority responsibility. His background in health and safety and civil litigation gives him a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, causation, and evidential issues that often arise in these matters.

James brings empathy, meticulous preparation, and a calm, measured advocacy style to his inquest work, ensuring that his clients’ voices are heard and that complex factual issues are presented with clarity and care.

He has been led by senior counsel in complex inquests involving multiple deaths and significant media interest, including cases attracting national coverage.
