Position

Maddy is completing her pupillage under the supervision of Glenn Parsons and Helen Hendry.

Prior to commencing her legal studies, Maddy worked as a court intermediary in both criminal and family courts. Within this role, she supported vulnerable defendants with communication difficulties, including in high-profile and complex cases. This experience developed her client care skills through supporting a range of lay clients throughout proceedings, as well as her ability to work effectively alongside professional clients.

Maddy’s experience of the Criminal Justice System has been complemented by various mini pupillage and marshalling placements that she has undertaken. Additionally, she spent a number of weeks working as a debate coach with Vocalise in HMP Belmarsh, which improved both her advocacy skills and understanding of the prison system.

Maddy has conducted various pro bono work and is passionate about access to justice. In between completing her legal studies and commencing pupillage, Maddy spent several weeks as a volunteer caseworker for Bail for Immigration Detainees. In this role, she supported individuals via an advice line and drafted bail applications and accommodation applications. She also volunteered for two years with the BPP Family Legal Advice clinic, first as an adviser and then a director, which honed her legal research skills.

In support of Maddy’s studies and pupillage, she secured GDL, Bar Course and pupillage scholarships from Gray’s Inn.

Maddy has conducted family law pro bono work and is passionate about access to justice. She volunteered for two years with the BPP Family Legal Advice Clinic, first as an adviser and then director. Within the Clinic, she drafted various letters of advice, and gained valuable advocacy skills when granted rights of audience to make representations on behalf of unrepresented service users in court. These experiences have broadened Maddy’s understanding of family courts and processes, and honed her legal research skills in a variety of areas of family law.

In support of Maddy’s studies and pupillage, she secured GDL, Bar Course and pupillage scholarships from Gray’s Inn.
