Dentons advised Budapest Airport on the $1.6bn material restructuring of all current debts of the Budapest Airport Group and advised UniCredit and MUFG as co-ordinators on a €750m revolving credit facility for MOL. Banking and finance head Gergely Horváth, counsel Gábor Király and associate Gabriella Pataki are key members of the department, as is US-qualified lawyer Edward Keller, who leads the capital markets team.
Dentons has a ‘personal approach’ and particular experience in acting for private equity clients; it advised Polish Enterprise Fund VI, a private equity fund managed by Enterprise Investors, on the €56.5m sale of Netrisk.hu to MCI Capital Group. Department head Rob Irving combines ‘outstanding legal expertise with a business-minded approach’. Edward Keller, Anita Horváth and Annamária Csenterics are standout individuals, as is counsel Susan Wang, who heads the firm’s CEE China desk.
Competition Tier 1
Dentons handles a range of cartel, state aid and abuse of dominance cases, as well as compliance audits. Porsche Hungaria, Nestlé, Budapest Airport and Chemium are key clients. Of counsel Tihamér Tóth and counsel Tünde Gönczöl jointly head the team. Associate Áron Károlyi-Szabó is also recommended.
Projects and energy Tier 1
Dentons’ expertise spans energy, infrastructure and project finance mandates and key work included advising CEFC Hainan International Holding, a subsidiary of CEFC China Energy Company, on the acquisition of a majority stake in KMG International. Project finance head Gergely Horváth and regulatory and energy head István Réczicza lead the team. Anita Horváth, of counsel Emőke Kovács, who is regularly involved in energy projects, and senior counsel Balázs Csuday, who is a regulatory expert, are also recommended. Associate János Csáki joined from Hegymegi-Barakonyi and Partner Baker & McKenzie Attorneys-at-Law.
Real estate and construction Tier 1
Dentons advised Marathon Asset Management and MCAP Global Finance on the financing and acquisition of Népliget Center Office Building from GLL Real Estate Partners. It also assisted Starwood Capital Group with its €75m acquisition of Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel from Orbis Hotel Group. Judit Kővári heads the team and Marcell Szőnyi is ‘super responsive’. Ádám Kaplonyi is now with KPMG Legal Tóásó Law Firm.
Dispute resolution Tier 2
Dentons’ ‘professional’ team handles commercial litigation and international arbitration matters. The team represented Engie (formerly GDF Suez) in an ICSID arbitration and is acting for GDF Suez Energia Holding Hungary in several cases brought by Hungarian gas trading companies. Counsel Márk Baja heads the team and is ably supported by managing partner István Réczicza. Milán Kohlrusz joined Bittera Kohlrusz & Tóth in 2018.
Employment Tier 2
Dentons handles data protection matters, individual and collective relations, labour disputes and day-to-day employment issues. It also regularly advises on the employment aspects of transactional mandates. Clients include Rexel Hungary, Robert Walters Operations, Nike and Affidea. Counsel Márton Kertész heads the team.
TMT Tier 2
Dentons handles a range of transactional, regulatory, and data protection mandates. Key highlights include acting for Invitel Group on its sale to CEE Equity Partners. It also advises Sony Entertainment on music licensing and competition matters. István Réczicza leads the team and counsel Tímea Bana is also recommended.
Intellectual property Tier 3
Dentons advises on the enforcement and exploitation of copyright, trade marks and designs, and regularly handles data protection and privacy mandates. The team is advising the Hungarian subsidiary of Epam Systems on GDPR compliance. Managing partner István Réczicza, who is experienced in IP and competition regulation, and counsel Tímea Bana are noted.
