Contreras Velozo launched its competition and regulation department in 2018 when it recruited experienced advisers Javier Velozo and Pablo Pardo from Aninat Schwencke & Cia. Now six-strong, the practice group handles merger control, abuse of dominance, collusion, non-contentious proceedings and follow-on damages litigation, among other matters. The team has particular expertise in regulated network industries, advising corporates and government bodies on energy, gas, transport and banking, as well as in telecoms where the firm advises key players such main Chilean telecoms provider, Movistar. Both dispute resolution specialist Pardo and former TDLC judge Velozo have considerable experience across the spectrum of competition and anti-trust matters. Disputes is a core practice at Contreras Velozo which fields a 12-strong team divided between the civil litigation, commercial arbitration and dispute resolution group, co-led by Óscar Contreras Blanco and Álvaro Awad Sirhan; and the criminal litigation practice led by Francisco Velozo.
