Diversity
At Bruchou & Funes de Rioja, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are not only core principles of our identity, but also strategic priorities embedded in everything we do. We believe that true diversity goes beyond gender or race and also includes creating opportunities for individuals from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Our DEI approach focuses on fostering meaningful inclusion, social mobility, and access to the legal profession.
Since our founding, we have implemented transparent human resources policies, designed to promote meritocracy while actively supporting diversity and inclusion at all levels of the firm. These policies are communicated through our Code of Conduct and core values—integrity, excellence, teamwork, innovation, and client service—and reinforced by our leadership’s daily actions.
A Pioneering Partnership: BisBlick Foundation: One of our most impactful DEI initiatives is our partnership with Fundación BisBlick. As stated, Bruchou & Funes de Rioja has long recognized that, in Argentina, promoting genuine diversity within the legal profession requires addressing not only traditional categories of inclusion but also the profound socioeconomic barriers that prevent talented individuals from accessing legal education and professional environments. In a context where upward mobility is often constrained by a lack of academic support, financial resources, and professional networks, our firm has chosen to focus its Diversity & Inclusion strategy on creating meaningful pathways for young people from low-income backgrounds to develop and sustain legal careers.
At the heart of this commitment is our partnership with Fundación BisBlick, a leading Argentine non-profit organization dedicated to empowering high-potential youth who aspire to become first-generation university graduates. BisBlick identifies students with exceptional academic promise and provides them with scholarships, mentorship, and training programs that enable them to advance through university despite the social and economic barriers they face. The organization’s holistic model—centered on academic support, personal development, and employability—aligns naturally with our firm’s belief that diversity must begin by expanding access to opportunity.
Bruchou & Funes de Rioja is proud to be the first law firm in Argentina to create a structured professional development path for BisBlick students, integrating them into the legal industry through a progressive apprenticeship program. Students join the firm as apprentices in our Information Centre, a key department that offers cross-practice exposure and hands-on training. This model gives them access to the type of professional environment, mentorship, and practical experience that are typically beyond reach for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Over the past three years, the partnership has yielded remarkable and measurable progress. Micaela Villa Gutiérrez, who joined the firm in 2023, completed an intensive 18-month apprenticeship and, in March 2025, advanced into a Paralegal position within our Corporate/M&A department. She is on track to obtain her law degree between late 2026 and early 2027. Camila Rivero, who joined in 2024, transitioned after fifteen months in the Information Centre to a Paralegal role in our Labour & Employment team and graduated from law school in 2025. Our most recent participant, Morena Ruiz, began her apprenticeship in September 2025 and is currently developing through the early stages of the program under the same framework that guided the success of her predecessors.
These individual journeys illustrate the transformative potential of a model designed not only to provide access but to ensure development, continuity, and long-term professional growth. By combining academic support from BisBlick with structured, merit-based opportunities within the firm, the program enables students to envision and pursue legal careers that would otherwise remain inaccessible. Their presence enriches our teams, broadens our perspectives, and strengthens the diversity of our talent pipeline in a way that is both tangible and sustainable.
The significance of this initiative extends beyond the firm. It demonstrates how private-sector actors, and law firms in particular, can meaningfully address one of Argentina’s most pressing diversity challenges: the socioeconomic inequality that shapes access to higher education and, ultimately, to the legal profession. By offering a clear, replicable model in which disadvantaged youth can enter, grow, and succeed within the legal sector, Bruchou & Funes de Rioja contributes not only to the diversification of its own workforce but also to the long-term transformation of the profession.
Our continued collaboration with BisBlick reaffirms a vision of diversity rooted in equal opportunity, structural inclusion, and social mobility. It is an initiative that aligns fully with the spirit of the Diversity Initiative of the Year Award: forward-thinking, impactful, and grounded in a long-term commitment to expanding access to the legal profession for those who have historically been excluded from it.
Guggenheimer Award 2025: International Recognition: We were recently recognized with the Joan Guggenheimer Global Law Firm Diversity Award 2025 from JPMorgan Chase. This prestigious award honors law firms that have made exceptional efforts to promote diversity within their organizations and the legal profession. Bruchou & Funes de Rioja was selected for our comprehensive and innovative approach to DEI, our sustained impact on social mobility, and our leadership in advancing inclusion practices in Latin America.
Inclusive Recruitment and Career Development: Our recruitment strategy is rooted in a merit-based approach that values academic achievements, professional experience, and alignment with our firm’s values. We take pride in drawing talent from across Argentina’s provinces, universities, and socio-economic backgrounds. Notably, our team includes professionals aged 30 to 75, reflecting the richness of perspectives that age diversity brings. Once on board, all firm members undergo annual 360° performance reviews that consider professional achievements, alignment with DEI values, and contributions to an inclusive culture. These evaluations directly influence promotions, compensation, and bonuses, ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integral to career advancement.
We also provide leadership opportunities to those demonstrating strong DEI commitment, incentivizing inclusive behaviors and ensuring diverse voices are represented in decision-making. Our succession plan, unique in Argentina, provides each partner with a secret vote in electing the firm’s Executive Committee, fostering transparency and fairness.
Flexible and Inclusive Workplace Policies: Our firm has developed progressive work-life balance policies to support all employees, including those with caregiving responsibilities. These policies exceed legal requirements in Argentina and promote gender equality. For mothers, we offer optional extended maternity leave, home office flexibility, and progressive return schemes. Fathers benefit from an enhanced paternity leave policy, which has seen high uptake. These measures have significantly reduced the incidence of unpaid leave among our female associates and minimized career interruptions.
Additionally, we offer dynamic work arrangements, including flex-time and part-time options, with no negative impact on compensation for flex-time. Our flexible policies help all members balance professional and personal commitments without compromising career development.
Dedicated DEI Resources and Governance: We have established robust governance structures to support our DEI objectives. Our Diversity Committee, comprising partners and managers, reports directly to the firm’s highest governing body. This committee leads initiatives such as diversity surveys, supplier diversification, unconscious bias training, and mentoring programs for female lawyers. Our appointed Ombudspersons —another pioneering initiative in Argentina’s legal sector—provide a confidential and independent channel for addressing discrimination, harassment, and other violations of our values. Their work fosters trust and accountability, encouraging openness and continuous improvement.
Measuring Our Impact: We continuously monitor the effectiveness of our DEI initiatives through metrics such as promotion and bonus allocations, career progression of diverse professionals, turnover rates, and feedback from performance evaluations and associate committees. This data-driven approach ensures accountability and guides us in refining our strategies to achieve even greater impact.
Conclusion: At Bruchou & Funes de Rioja, DEI is more than a policy—it is a core value that guides our actions and shapes our culture. We will continue to lead by example, setting new benchmarks in the legal industry and contributing to a more equitable and inclusive society.
