Position

Chris Hutley-Hurst heads up the Walkers' Channel Islands Regulatory and Risk Advisory Group.

Chris is a Guernsey Advocate, with more than 20 years' experience in private practice in Guernsey, London and New York. He specialises in financial services regulation, corporate tax, and investment funds.

Chris advises on Guernsey regulatory matters, covering financial services, licensing regimes, data protection and GDPR, beneficial ownership, anti-money laundering, fintech and virtual assets. He advises various financial services businesses, including banks, payment providers, CSPs, fund administrators, asset managers and investment funds.

Having worked as a tax lawyer previously, he has a unique experience in international tax matters, including VAT and GST. He advises on Guernsey corporate tax (including the new Pillar 2 GloBE rules), economic substance requirements, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Common Reporting Standard, Country-by-Country Reporting Regime and other initiatives.

Chris is the author of the Bloomberg Tax Guide Guernsey chapter. He is also a board member for the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce.

Career

Chris spent six years working with another leading offshore law firm in Guernsey before joining Walkers' Guernsey office in January 2021.

Prior to that he spent a combined 12 years working in the London offices of two leading US law firms, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom (UK) LLP, and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP, spending a year in the New York office of the latter.
