Areas of practice:
Projects: The firm’s Dubai office advises clients throughout the Middle East and Africa in relation to infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on renewable energy, conventional power and utilities.
Construction and Engineering: The firm’s Dubai office has a specialist non-contentious construction and engineering practice, advising sponsors, governments and banks in relation to major power, oil and gas and other infrastructure projects.
Corporate and Commercial: The firm’s Dubai office provides advice on all aspects of M&A transactional mandates, corporate advisory and commercial work to clients drawn from the energy, defence, automotive, professional services, retail, manufacturing and technology sectors
- Advising Marubeni and Total Solar as developer of the 800MW Al Kharsaa solar project in Qatar
- Advising Marubeni and Al Jomaih as developer of the 300MW Rabigh solar project in Saudi Arabia (part of the REPDO Round II renewables programme)
- Advising Fotowatio Renewable Ventures as developer of the 55MW Masrik solar project in Armenia
- Advising the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in relation to a 30MW/ 60MWH energy storage project in Jordan
- Advising Premier Oil in connection with the $2.4 billion development of phase one of the Sea Lion project in the Falkland Islands
Growth of the office: The firm invested significantly in its projects practice during the course of 2019. Clint Steyn re-joined the Dubai office as regional head of projects, having served two years as general counsel at Alcazar Energy. He has over 20 years of M&A, project development and project finance experience.
Andrej Kormuth joined as partner from Clifford Chance LLP. Kormuth’s recent experience includes the latest wave of Saudi Arabian renewables, water and waste water projects and Qatar’s first renewable IPP.
Finally, Tom Swarbrick was promoted to the firm’s partnership on 1 January 2020. Swarbrick advises clients in relation to non-contentious construction matters in the oil and gas, power and infrastructure sectors.
