Mourant named in China Business Law Journal's 'Deals of the Year' for 2024

Mourant, a law firm-led professional services business, has been recognised by China Business Law Journal in its 'Deals of the Year' for 2024. Each year, the China Business Law Journal announces its annual roundup of the top deals that stood out from a vast submission database of Chinese and international law firms. This is supported by independent observation and coverage of China’s legal market, with the journal considering factors including overall significance, complexity, innovation and deal size. Mourant's winning deal involved acting as BVI legal counsel to Hollysys Automation Technologies (Hollysys) on its US$1.66 billion privatisation by Hong Kong-based private equity firm Ascendent Capital Partners. The completion of the privatisation was announced on 25 July 2024 following the 11 December 2023 acquisition plan announcement. This deal was also shortlisted for 'M&A Deal of the Year' at the ALB China Law Awards 2024. Asia Managing Partner and Practice Leader of the Hong Kong Corporate and Investment Funds team, Paul Christopher, and Corporate Partner, Jessica Lee, led the deal for Mourant, working closely with Hong Kong Senior Associate Jesslyn Leung. Deutsche Bank AG, Davis Polk & Wardwell and Haiwen & Partners also advised Hollysys on the transaction. Paul Christopher commented: "We're delighted to have been recognised by the China Business Law Journal for working on one of the top deals of 2024. This particular privatisation was complex in nature and required seamless collaboration across practices and time zones to achieve a successful outcome for both Hollysys and Ascendent Capital Partners." -ENDS- Notes to Editors For further information please contact: Chloe Whittaker, Senior External Communications Executive: [email protected] About Mourant Mourant is a law firm-led, professional services business with over 60 years' experience in the financial services sector.
