Our firm traces its history to February 1988 where the practices of founding partners Joseph Tan and Jude Benny were merged and renamed Joseph Tan Jude Benny (JTJB).
JTJB provides specialised legal services in in five cores areas of practice; maritime and shipping, commercial dispute resolution, corporate and corporate secretarial, regulatory and compliance, real estate and conveyancing. Our firm is a prominent part of the legal landscape in Singapore with an international clientele and reputation. - Acted for one of the largest Greek banks in the enforcement of a fleet mortgage with a claim value of approximately US$20 million where interveners applied to alter priorities. The case is reported (The “Posidon” [2017] SGHC 138).
- Acted for an international recycling company against its local affiliate for breach of contract, failure to process raw material and misappropriation of raw material supplied. The case also involved obtaining injunctive relief against the directors of the local affiliate to prevent the sale of a property. The case is reported (RGA Holdings International Inc v Loh Choon Ping Robin and Others [2017] SGCA 55).
- Represented creditors in successfully resisting the liquidator’s application under the former section 259 of the Companies Act relating to disposition of property after the commencement of winding up leading to the first local decision on the provision (Centaurea International Pte Ltd (in liquidation) v Citus Trading Pte Ltd [2016] SGHC 264)
- Acted for the ship-manager in successfully resisting vessel owners’ application to strike out the claim and to stay in rem proceedings in Singapore. This is the first local decision considering the impact that a stay of in personam proceedings may have on in rem proceedings (The “URSUS” and Ors [2015] SGHCR 7)
- Acted for a listed oil & gas company in restructuring and claims handling of its loan obligations with various banks, amounting to an excess of US$200 million.
- Acting for a state-owned Brazil Petroleum Company in Singapore Court proceedings against claims over a claim of US$76 million. This includes providing Singapore law opinion in related English court proceedings.
