Investment funds Tier 2

Simmons & Simmons LLP covers a wide spectrum of tax and regulatory matters for asset managers and investors, which are frequently dealt with as part of fund structuring and transactional instructions, as recently demonstrated by Harald Glander’s advice to Allianz Global Investors on its cross-border merger with Rogge Global Partners. Patent litigation Tier 3

Simmons & Simmons LLP’s key expertise remains in the life sciences space, where as well as advising pharmaceutical companies the team also increasingly handles disputes related to the introduction of organic products. The group’s steadily growing presence in mobile communications litigation is another core focus for the team, which is led by practice head Peter Meyer. Meyer defended Axdia International against patent infringement proceedings brought by Philipps regarding Google functionalities on electronic devices and Ina vom Feld represented Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica in patent infringement proceedings concerning a porcine vaccine. Restructuring Tier 5

Simmons & Simmons LLP is particularly active in advising creditors and also handles operational restructurings. In July 2017, practice head Werner Meier joined from King & Spalding LLP and continues to advise financial investors as creditors of HSH Nordbank and Air Berlin. He also acted for Pepkor Europe Limited, as part of the Steinhoff furniture group, and various subsidiaries such as Poundland UK and Pepco Poland on Steinhoff’s refinancing and restructuring, which included advice on further loan financing. Stephan Ulrich assisted an IT company with the restructuring of its German business, including the relocation of production abroad and the closure of German locations. Counsel Regina Rath represented a solar company in ongoing litigation in rescission proceedings in the context of the insolvency of several solar companies.

In a recent highlight, counsel Alexander Greth advised M7 Real Estate as part of a joint venture with Blackstone on employment law matters arising from the acquisition of a German and Dutch real estate portfolio.
