Banking and finance Tier 2
Shook Lin & Bok is strong for contentious and non-contentious conventional and Islamic finance matters and has a breadth of experience in the negotiating, preparing and structuring of banking and finance transactions, products and documentation. Corporate finance partner Jalalullail Othman heads up the group and has experience advising domestic and international financial institutions, corporate borrowers and public sector bodies such as Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Malaysia. The group also has a dedicated loan and debt restructuring practice, which is led by Mei Lin Khong and benefits from conventional and Islamic finance expert Kiat Ching Hoh's expertise which spans from advising on corporate and retail banking documentation to corporate debt restructuring.
Dispute resolution Tier 2
Shook Lin & Bok's dispute resolution practice has experience across a full range of litigation and arbitration. The group is jointly led by Sin Min Yoong — who is strong for banking and finance, land law and commercial litigation — and labour and industrial disputes expert Romesh Abraham. Ko Luen Lam focuses on arbitration, construction disputes, civil and corporate litigation. Former managing partner Nagarajah Muttiah left the practice to establish Nagarajah Advocates and Solicitors.
Intellectual property Tier 2
Shook Lin & Bok's intellectual property team is known predominantly for its expertise in contentious matters and also has the capabilities to advise on filing and prosecution and enforcement of rights, as well as on licensing and franchising. Managing partner Michael Soo heads the team and focuses on enforcement and civil litigation, while Wendy Lee Wan Chien handles advisory and prosecution of trade marks, patents and industrial designs and trade mark opposition proceedings.
Islamic finance Tier 2
The Islamic banking and finance group at Shook Lin & Bok has experience advising across retail financing, mezzanine financing and debt capital markets. The team is led by Jalalullail Othman, who focuses on corporate finance, and includes Mei Lin Khong, whose clients benefits from her broad banking and finance experience.
Labour and employment Tier 3
The labour and industrial team at Shook Lin & Bok, which handles both advisory work and litigation, is led by Romesh Abraham and includes Mehala Marimuthoo, who are both particularly experienced in employment disputes. David Ng Yew Kiat joined Steven Thiru & Sudhar Partnership.
