Norton Rose Fulbright acts for a broad range of clients including financial institutions, investors, start-ups and regulators in issues pertaining to regulatory obligations, payments services, technology projects and investment transactions. The team acted for China Development Bank, as English and lead counsel, in a $300m dual-tranche facility to Pakistan's United Bank, which was in relation to the first indigenous coal-fired, super-critical power plant in Pakistan. Beijing-based Tom Luckock is head of projects and specialises in projects in the power, infrastructure and water sectors, and Paul Wee Ei Don is highly rated for outbound financing projects; he has advised major financial institutions and corporations on project financing, export credit financing and leveraged acquisition financing, with a particular focus on the mining and metals, oil and gas, power and infrastructure sectors.
Norton Rose Fulbright regularly acts for international and major Chinese banks as well as a large number of international and local Chinese sponsors, borrowers and corporations. The practice's scope of work covers project financing, acquisition finance, export credit financing, asset finance, and real estate financing and sovereign lending; it also has particular sector expertise in power, oil and gas, infrastructure, mining and commodities, transport, and financial institutions. In recent years, Beijing's Paul Wee Ei Don has advised on large Chinese outbound financings involving countries from Australia and Angola to the Ukraine and Venezuela. Norton Rose Fulbright's corporate and M&A team is particularly noted for its sector experience involving banks, insurance and financial institutions, real estate, TMT, energy and natural resources, and life sciences and healthcare. Shanghai's Sun Hong specialises in foreign direct investment (FDI), M&A, joint ventures and corporate transactions that involve PRC assets or entities, while in Beijing Barbara Li is highly regarded for China-related cross-border transactions that particularly involve the Fintech and TMT sectors.
