Career

Gerry is a Corporate Partner and focuses on corporate and commercial matters.  He has over 15 years of experience in the Middle East, including 2 years working in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Gerry advises on a wide range of corporate aspects including M&A, joint ventures, structuring of entry into the UAE, family structuring, funds and regulatory matters.

He advises a broad range of clients such as entrants to the UAE, Emirati families (including Royal families) and UAE-based enterprises.

Practice Focus

Gerry is a Solicitor of England & Wales and has worked in the UAE for over 15 years.  He advises on a wide range of corporate aspects relevant to the UAE and its jurisdictions, including funds, acquisitions, structuring of entry into the UAE and other regulatory matters relating to the activities of UAE entities.  He advises a broad range of clients such as entrants to the UAE, Emirati families (including Royal families) and UAE-based enterprises.

Representative clients, cases or matters

Advising Orascom on its sale of the Cove Rotana resort in Ras Al Khaimah. Setting up a joint venture in the UAE (approx. US$200 million in value) for the manufacture of high-tech batteries. Acting for a JV partner in the introduction of a Loro Piana stable brand (Sease) in its introduction into the UAE through a Dubai Mall flagship store. Advising on and implementing the corporate restructuring of the intrests and assets of a member of the Ruling Family of Dubai. Advising client on investments by way of VC funds, 15 investments of approx US$50 million in aggregate. Advising the Government of a northern Emirate on the hydrocarbon rights therein, including agreeing amendments to the concession, financing aspects and ancillary technical agreements. Negotiating and agreeing the port concession with Hutchison Ports on behalf of the Government of Umm Al Quwain. Preparing suite of agreements relating to a “coliv” development and providing legal support throughout the construction and opening of the development. Advising on a number of large scale (AED multibillion) real estate developments throughout the UAE, primarily for landowners, including for residential, commercial and hospitality projects. Performing a number of acquisitions of part or all of the equity in UAE companies, as well as joint venture arrangements and asset divestments/business sales.
