Karan Bindra, Founder Partner, KIAA LLP

What do you see as the main points that differentiate KIAA LLP from your competitors?

So, we at KIAA LLP have very different and unique standards to measure our growth or success, we’ve labelled our scales of measurement as – ‘Client Satisfaction.’ Each one of our team members believe that the level of satisfaction of our clients is directly proportional to our growth map. As such, we consider ourselves as our biggest competition, and we would only like to be a better version of ourselves with each passing phase.

Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?

We see a lot of growth in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods. There seems to be a lot of buzz around ‘Mediation’, and with many new laws mandating pre-litigation mediation to lessen the burden on the judiciary, it seems that a lot of clients would like to sit down across the table and sort-out the matter to save themselves the time, money, and energy drained during the course of a legal battle. Furthermore, we can see a lot of amendments and growth in Technology Laws, Privacy Laws, Commercial Transactions, and Environment Regulations. A lot is changing in the post covid era, and we should have our safety belts on for the roller coaster ride waiting for us.

Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?

Of course, it is! When we started back in 2011-12, clients had to visit our office time and again sometimes to brief us on the case or affix signatures on some documents. We had a restricted client pool because of territorial limitations. But now, you could be sitting in corner of the world and your client may be in another but the interaction is seamless, all thanks to the zoom call trend. Since communicating with the client has gotten easier and better, we are able to provide a lot of add-on services too for smallest of legal problems that keep cropping up time and again. Technology has also helped us not limit our scope to the Courts alone, we are now providing corporate assistance and Arbitration & Mediation services to organizations around the globe.

Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?

We may not be able to give specific and extensive details about such events since we hold utmost regard for the privacy of our clients and make every endeavor to maintain the confidentiality as such.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms - where do you see the firm in three years’ time?

Looking at the conditions right now especially post the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19, we can say, yes clients especially the business houses are aiming to maintain stability and are seeking a strategic direction in coping with pending litigation matters to minimize losses, possibility of alternative dispute resolutions, quick and smooth business compliances. As legal partners to their business houses, we would like to cater to their needs that change with time. 3 years down the line, we would want to maintain consistency and continue to be acknowledged as a ‘one stop solution for all your legal problems’.
