About
The Kennedys office in Chile provides specialist advice to international and domestic insurers, based on a deep understanding of the local insurance market.
We advise on all aspects of insurance law and litigation, including the defence of claims, policy wordings, coverage advice and corporate insurance. We have significant experience in resolving high value and complex claims, particularly in relation to mining, energy and financial lines.
We also provide advice in relation to regulatory matters, compliance, corporate law, antitrust law, information technology (data privacy, e-commerce, networks), labour law, consumer law, intellectual property and real estate.
Our Chilean insurance and reinsurance professionals are part of the wider Kennedys network. We work closely with our network of Latin American offices and our Miami regional hub for the Americas. In addition we have an extensive network across Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. We work together to provide a seamless legal service in Latin America and beyond.
Brief history of the firm
Kennedys has a rich history of delivering straightforward advice, even when the issues are complex, to help clients navigate challenges, today and tomorrow. Since 1899 we have been listening to our clients’ needs and we will continue to expand our global footprint in recognition of how the insurance market develops and where our clients need us. Kennedys opened its offices in Santiago on 2016 by building on the strong tradition and like values of Sateler, Depolo Diemoz who was already a locally renowned firm with strong ties to the market.
A synopsis of the firm’s main areas of practice
Kennedys Insurance and Reinsurance practice has significant experience advising on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance law, including regulation, claims management and the defence of claims, policy wordings, coverage advice, corporate insurance and general corporate and competition law for the insurance industry. We are known for our ability to advice on contentious and non-contentious matters arising from highly complex issues and claims, particularly in relation to mining, energy and financial lines as well as by providing sound and practical regulatory and risk analysis advisory.

The Firm´s Insurance and Reinsurance practice is coupled with a strong Commercial and Corporate practice with significant experience advising on corporate matters ranging from company acquisitions, dispositions and related financing arrangements, capitalisations, entity selection and formation, operating and partnership agreements, securities and governance matters. Most members of the practice also complement their legal credentials with hands on experience serving as directors for large corporations.

Cutting throughout both practices, Kennedys Litigation practice has significant experience acting for clients on abroad range of contentious matters and industries from damages arising out of explosion to pollution to professional liability claims. The team acts for clients on commercial disputes before civil courts and assists clients on in all stages of litigation including pre-trial negotiations, documentation and preparation for trial, summary judgement motions, trial, appeals and enforcement proceedings and extends to domestic arbitration.
