The Lex 100 Verdict

A 'perfect mix of location (close to London without actually being in the capital)' and the 'excellent reputation' drew trainees to B P Collins. 'Challenging work' and 'the chance to work independently on files' make for a happy cohort who cite work such as 'exchanging and completing conveyancing transactions', 'being the point of contact for a client' and 'successfully negotiating with the solicitor on the other side' among their best moments. 'Everyone works collaboratively' at the Buckinghamshire firm and 'nobody is ever too busy to answer a question'. In fact, 'you can walk into anyone's office and talk to them about work'. Indeed, 'the level of support received from supervisors and partners shows that they really want to turn you into a top solicitor'. There were some grumbles about the pay, although the main concerns focused on the current offices, where staff are split across two buildings. But respondents were quick to point out that there are imminent plans to move to new premises 'where everyone will be under one roof'. Recruits recounted some not-so-pleasant moments, such as 'having to confess to an easily avoidable mistake that I made' and 'running to and from court to file documents just before a deadline'. However, it seems that such mishaps are a small price to pay for 'hands-on experience and lots of client contact', as well as the 'ability to work directly with partners'. If you're looking for a firm with a 'good work/life balance but which also has a reputation for high-quality work', B P Collins might be the one for you.
