Banking and finance Tier 1

Working for both lenders and borrowers, BDK Advokati stands out for its experience in Loan Market Association and international swaps and derivatives association documentation and hedging transactions. Tijana Kojović advised Société Générale (as agent) and a syndicate of commercial bank lenders, on a €3.05bn credit facility provided to a subsidiary of PPF Group for the acquisition of Telenor's CEE business. Dragoljub Cibulić and senior associate Dragoljub Sretenović are other names to note.

Commercial, corporate and M&A Tier 1

With offices in Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia, BDK Advokati's regional M&A practice is highly regarded for its advice on multi-jurisdictional deals. Vladimir Dašić advised regional private equity fund Blue Sea Capital on the sale of a 55 per cent stake in Medi Group, a private healthcare provider in Serbia, to Mid Europa Partners; and Tijana Kojović acted for Mainframe 2, established by a Serbian entrepreneur and known for cloud-based Windows desktop and application delivery, on the sale of its shares to Nutanix. Senior associates Tomislav Popović and Janko Nikolić were hired from Law Office Miroslav Stojanovic, in cooperation with Wolf Theiss and JPM Jankovic Popovic & Mitic, respectively, while former senior associate Marija Doci left the firm.

Competition Tier 1

BDK Advokati's 'team is always available and quickly finds the perfect solution'. It is highly rated for competition and state aid law in Serbia; the practice represented Imperial Tobacco in an investigation into an alleged price-fixing cartel against Serbia's tobacco manufacturers and importers. Tijana Kojović is 'outstanding'; former consultant Vladlena Rudusāne-Simić left the firm.

Dispute resolution Tier 1

BDK Advokati's 'team is responsive, loyal to deadlines and detail oriented'. It has significant arbitration expertise; and is also active in the litigation space where it handles defamation, internal corporate investigations and white-collar crime, tax matters, employment law, data protection and corporate law, among other areas. The team successfully represented an Italian company in a dispute with a Serbian buyer that included a claim for repossession of machines. Tijana Kojović 'stands out'.

BDK Advokati's Ana Jankov advises on sensitive terminations, incentives and contentious matters; she also assists with workplace-related privacy and data protection and flexible working arrangements. The team assisted Adient with employment-related issues and labour litigation.

Projects and energy Tier 1

BDK Advokati's expertise includes both project financing and overall  project implementation. The team advised Enlight Renewable Energy (as sponsor) and Electrawinds K-Wind (as borrower) on the €142m project financing for one of Serbia's largest wind farms. Dragoljub Cibulić heads the firm’s energy and infrastructure practices.

Real estate and construction Tier 1

BDK Advokati is experienced in International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC)-based construction contracts, complex asset purchases, retail park developments and assisting hotel operators; the team also advises on energy-related real estate matters. It enjoys a decade-long relationship with high-profile Israeli real estate developer, Aviv Arlon, for whom it recently acted on a residential complex development in Belgrade. Dragoljub Cibulić heads the real estate and construction department; Milan Dakić is also an experienced practitioner.

Intellectual property Tier 2

BDK Advokati 'goes to great lengths to make sure all requirements are fulfilled'. The team acted for Fornetti against a Serbian holder of the trade mark Fornetti for registering the trade mark in bad faith. Bogdan Ivanišević is 'highly informed and provides the best possible service and results' and senior associate Milica Basta and associate Marko Popović also deserve mention; former senior associate Vera Davidović left to found her own firm.

 

The firm

BDK Advokati (BDK) was established in 2004 by the current managing partner, Tijana Kojovic, in Belgrade. The firm quickly grew in terms of fee-earners (currently 31), as well as territorial coverage. From the outset, the firm has also been active in transactions, regulatory advice and litigation taking place in the neighbouring markets of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This experience was strengthened with the opening of offices in Podgorica in 2009 and Banja Luka in 2013.
